This image captures a detailed section of the central portal on the main facade of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (Florence Cathedral) in Florence, Italy. The prominent feature is a large, arched mosaic depicting a religious scene. In the mosaic, Jesus Christ is centrally depicted, enthroned, with a golden halo, raising his right hand and holding a blue orb in his left hand, wearing a pinkish-red robe. To the viewer's left of Christ, a figure in a red robe holds a palm frond, standing beside a kneeling figure. On the floor below them, a golden vase contains white lilies. To the viewer's right of Christ, several figures are present, including one bare-chested individual being led or presented, and another robed figure with a halo. At the bottom edge of the mosaic, text visible on a dark band reads "VENEZIA 1886 SOCIETÀ MVSIVA VEN", indicating its origin and date. The mosaic is framed by an elaborate architectural archway crafted from light-colored marble with darker decorative inlays. This archway features multiple concentric bands of intricate carvings, including twisted columnar elements, floral motifs, geometric patterns, and relief sculptures of figures, some holding books. Below the mosaic and above the unseen entrance, there are rectangular panels containing heraldic shields, one prominently displaying a red cross on a white field. These panels are set against a background of small mosaic tesserae and surrounded by further detailed stone carvings. Flanking the entire composition are spiraling columns with ornate capitals. The scene is illuminated by natural daylight.
