The water is a murky green-blue and is beginning to recede, leaving a foamy white tide line. To the right, a large, dark, jagged rock formation juts out towards the sea, dominating the right side of the frame. Further to the left, smaller rock formations break the surface of the water and extend out towards the horizon. The sky is a uniform, pale gray, with no visible sun. The scene is located in the Praia da Adraga, near Colares, Portugal.
