This close-up macro photograph, taken in Dercekliai, Lithuania, depicts a mature dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) seed head, saturated with moisture
Short TermThis close-up macro photograph, taken in Dercekliai, Lithuania, depicts a mature dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) seed head, saturated with moisture. Numerous dark brown achenes, the individual seeds, are tightly clustered at the central base of the structure. Each achene is connected to a slender, light brown stalk, which terminates in a parachute-like cluster of white, feathery pappus bristles. Water droplets are distinctly visible clinging to the pappus bristles and some of the stalks, indicating recent exposure to precipitation or condensation. Approximately twenty to thirty individual seed and pappus units are clearly discernible, extending outwards in various directions. A small, light brown, oval-shaped object, consistent with a mollusk shell (possibly a small snail), is adhered to one of the lower-left achene stalks. The background is rendered out of focus, displaying blurred areas of pale green and light grey/off-white, suggesting a natural outdoor setting with foliage behind the subject. No human subjects or interactions are present.
