A wide, muddy brown river flows from right to left in the foreground of the image. The river is bordered on the left by a stone embankment topped with a low railing and a tree-lined sidewalk. Behind the sidewalk, a steep, terraced hillside rises, fortified with massive stone walls. Several large trees with lush green foliage are interspersed among the fortifications and on top of the hill. At the summit of the hill, on the left side of the image, stands a grey stone tower with a yellow and red flag flying from its top. Further to the right, cable car lines with suspended cabins are visible against the sky, traversing the hillside. The sky is blue with scattered white clouds, some of which are large and puffy. A few cars are parked along the sidewalk on the left side of the river. The scene depicts the Citadel of Namur, a historic fortress overlooking the city and the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers in Namur, Belgium.
