This image depicts a collection of dark red, lacquered statues of the "Laughing Buddha," also known as Budai. The central and largest statue is seated and holds a string of coins in its left hand and a ruyi scepter in its right. It is adorned with necklaces and appears to be wearing a vest. To the right of the central statue, and slightly in front, is a smaller seated Laughing Buddha wearing a hat, holding its hands in its lap. Further to the right and slightly in front of that is an even smaller statue of a Laughing Buddha. In the lower left corner of the image, a portion of another similar statue is visible. The statues are arranged on a red surface, which appears to be part of a table or shelf, against a textured, off-white wall. The lighting creates shadows, particularly behind the central statue. The scene is indoors. There is no indication of the city of Bassum, Germany, or any specific location within it.
