The scene depicts the upper canopy of a kapok tree in Bale, Indonesia, viewed from below against a partly cloudy, light blue sky. Numerous dark-toned branches extend across the frame, some bearing sparse clusters of green palmate leaves. The tree is heavily laden with mature kapok pods. Many pods are open, revealing their voluminous, creamy-white, fibrous contents, which hang distinctly from the branches in various shapes. Other intact, closed pods, oblong in shape and varying from green-brown to dark brown, are also visible. No individuals or objects other than the tree and sky are present.
