This image shows a detail of a mosaic artwork located on the facade of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Seaport (Santuario della Madonna del Porto) in Giulianova, Italy. The mosaic depicts a scene from the Bible, specifically the healing of the man born blind. In the central panel, Jesus, wearing a blue robe and with a halo, is kneeling and applying mud mixed with saliva to the eyes of a blind man, who is dressed in red and kneeling before him. Surrounding them are several onlookers, some appearing curious and others in conversation. To the left, a group of figures dressed in the style of ancient Judea are depicted. To the right, the mosaic transitions to a depiction of water and a man working on a structure, suggesting a narrative progression. Below the mosaic scene, there is an inscription in Italian that reads: "SPUTO A TERRA FECI DEL FANGO CON LA SALIVA E NE SPALMO GLI OCCHI DEL CIECO E DISSE: VA LAVATI NELLA PISCINA DI SILOE." This translates to: "He spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. He said to him, 'Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.'" The mosaic is rendered in small, colorful tiles, characteristic of the art form. The backdrop features a stylized representation of buildings, possibly a city. The artwork is framed by architectural elements, including pillars and arches, which are part of the building's facade.
