A vertical stone monument stands outdoors in San Pedro Cholula, Mexico, against a backdrop of dense tree foliage and a multi-story building. The monument consists of a light-colored rectangular slab, topped with a peaked cap. Centered on the monument is a vibrant, rectangular mosaic depicting historical events. The top-left of the mosaic is inscribed with "Chololla." The mosaic illustrates a tumultuous scene featuring numerous figures: indigenous people, characterized by dark skin, traditional attire including loincloths, skirts, and feathered headdresses, some carrying round shields and spears or clubs; and Spanish conquistadors, depicted with lighter skin, wearing metal armor, with one figure on a brown horse, wielding a sword, trampling over fallen indigenous figures. Other indigenous figures are shown seated, standing, or engaged in conflict. Indigenous architectural elements, possibly temples or palaces, are visible in the upper portion of the mosaic. The artist's name, "Jesús Quiroz Chimalp" is faintly visible below the mosaic on the right side. Below the mosaic, two blocks of text are inscribed. The upper block is in Nahuatl, beginning with "NIMAN IC UMPA IAQUE IN CHOLOLLA..." The lower block provides a Spanish translation, detailing the arrival in Cholula, a gathering in the "patio de dios," and subsequent "acuchillamiento, muertes, golpes." It mentions the Cholulans' lack of fear and their death without resistance or knowledge. This text concludes with the citation "Códice Florentino, Libro Doce, Capítulo Once." Affixed to the lower front of the monument is a darker, polished stone plaque. This plaque bears the dates "19 de octubre de 1519" and "19 de octubre de 2019," marking the "Conmemoración de los 500 años de la Matanza de Cholula" (Commemoration of the 500 years of the Cholula Massacre). It further lists "En mandato de Dr. Luis Alberto Arriaga Lila, Presidente Municipal de San Pedro Cholula 2018 - 2021" and names from the "Comisión De Cultura": "Presidente C. Miguel Romero Tejeda, Lic. Armando Filemón Aguirre Amaro, Mtro. Samuel Mata Rubio."
